The Oldest Idol Sings Again

American Idol winner Jordin Sparks and second place-finisher Blake Lewis both have EPs available on iTunes this week, while Kellie Pickler, Bucky Covington and Paris Bennett all released albums recently. But these young contestants aren't the only ones making music in hopes of a post-Idol singing career. Sherman Pore, a 65-year-old contestant who sang for the Idol judges, has released an album called For My Lady Love.

Pore, who exceeded the show's age limit by 36 years, was allowed to audition in front of judges Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson early in the sixth season after he told them that he was doing it for his "lady love" of 20 years who had recently passed away from cancer. While Melissa E. Miller was ill Pore put together a letter and a petition in hopes he would be allowed to audition. "She worked on it with me and she was just elated through the whole process," he said during his audition. "And everyday I'd come back with a lot of signatures and she'd just light up and I believe that it helped her to keep a positive attitude and I think it smoothed her passing."

Armed with 350 signatures, Pore sang "You Belong to Me" for the judges and told them he didn't want sympathy. While Abdul dabbed tears from her eyes Cowell called it a "class act."

The act continues now that Sherman has released an album of romantic standards, which includes "The Way You Look Tonight," "Unforgettable" and "You Belong to Me." And it's just as classy – Pore is donating $1 from each sale to go to City of Hope, a California medical and research center.

"She believed in me," Pore told the Boston Herald. "And she made me believe in myself. I feel her presence. She's orchestrating this."
