Bare Bones Golden Globes a Ratings Loser

The Writers Guild strike took all the fun out of the usually festive awards show on Sunday night, and viewers voted with their remotes, tuning into the competition instead of the stripped-down, celebrity-free announcement broadcast, which came in fourth for the hour, the Associated Press reports.
NBC's results show drew a 4.8 rating and 7 share, according to preliminary Nielsen estimates, behind the CBS show Comanche Moon, ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, and FOX's comedies Family Guy and American Dad. In contrast, last year’s Golden Globes had a 16.0 rating and a 23 audience share.
"I wish circumstance would allow me to be there," Cate Blanchett, who won the supporting actress prize for the Bob Dylan tale I'm Not There, said in a statement. But stars like Blanchett all refused to cross the picket lines, which led to the bare bones Globes.
Atonement, Sweeney Todd, and No Country For Old Men were among the winners on the film side, and the cable drama Mad Men and 30 Rock's Tina Fey were among the TV winners.
