1. He's multi-talented
Tyler, the Creator raps, produces music and plays the piano. He even directed the video for "Yonkers," which earned him the best new artist VMA.
2. He's controversial
In the video for "Yonkers," a song from his album Goblin, Tyler claims he's a "walkin' paradox" and eats, then throws up a cockroach before hanging himself with a noose at the end. The shocking video, which has been viewed almost 20 million times on YouTube.com, is characteristically controversial for the rapper who regularly uses slurs such as the "f-word" and the "n-word."
3. He's not a fan of Bruno Mars
During the VMAs pre-show, Tyler revealed that he hates music of fellow best new artist nominee Bruno Mars. In fact, if "Grenade" by Mars had won over "Yonkers," Tyler said, "I might kill myself." As for Mars's tribute to the late Amy Winehouse, he said, "He put on a good performance. But I still hate his f––king music."
4. He is a fan of Selena Gomez
While walking the black carpet into the show on Sunday, Tyler spotted MTV's fashion correspondent and told PEOPLE, "Oh my god, I think Selena Gomez is over there! I love her!" He also Tweeted, "Just Seen Selena, Having An Asthma Attack."
5. He's hurt
After accepting his Moonman, Tyler says he fell off stage into Kanye West's arms. "Damn," he Tweeted, "I Just Fell On @kanyewest And Kid Cudi. Like, I'm Hurt."
