poked fun at the singer's recent split from Conor Kennedy
during the opening monologue of Thursday's Country Music Association Awards.
"Brad and I were backstage talking about what a strange year this has been," Underwood said at the start of their funny (and musically-accentuated) routine.
"Just look at sports, I can't keep track of all these trades," continued Paisley, as his co-host noted that Tim Tebow is now playing for the New York Jets.
"The greatest trade of the year had to be the Kennedy family. They somehow traded Arnold Schwarzenegger for Taylor Swift," said Paisley in mock-seriousness. "I mean, what they got for that ..."
Stopping him mid-sentence, Underwood quickly whispered in his ear as the crowd laughed at the (carefully orchestrated) awkwardness.
"What? Why don't I ever hear about these things? I'm the last one to know," Paisley said, implying that Underwood filled him in on Swift and Kennedy's split.
And then – zing! – Paisley pressed on, spoofing Swift's recent hit single "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together." Teased the country star: "Are they ever gonna get back together?"
"Never," Underwood retorted (several times). "Never ever."
As for Swift, who was seated next to Reba McEntire, the camera never panned over to see if she was laughing and in on the joke.
Later in the show, she was center stage and got a standing ovation after performing her new single, "Begin Again," from Red
