Could North America be the first official port of call for Prince William and Kate Middleton once they're husband and wife?

That's the speculation raging early Monday, after a report in the U.K's The Sun claims that the couple will undertake their first official overseas tour to Canada.

While the prince's office is not commenting on the report, the paper says William is "overseeing the program to ensure it does not overwhelm his new wife," and that Kate, 29, will carry out one solo event during the trip.

William, 28, increasingly makes annual foreign tours and he is always likely to visit one of the major countries in the Commonwealth – those nations around the world that count Queen Elizabeth as their head of state. And with the prince's tour of New Zealand and Australia already under his belt, it's thought that a summer tour of Canada may be the best option.

Certainly, the Canadian tour would give William a chance to show Kate how this key element of royal duty works, while also enabling many well wishers in North America see the newlyweds in person. The interest in the couple's April 29 wedding from people all over the world has been staggering, and palace insiders have suggested to PEOPLE that much of it comes from the U.S. and Canada.

A spokeswoman at the palace is also tight-lipped on suggestions that they couple – mindful of more austere times – will honeymoon in the U.K. rather than traveling to a posh, exotic spot.
