A picture may be worth a thousand words – but Duchess Catherine and Prince William exchanged very few at their pre-nuptial photoshoots, photographer Mario Testino tells PEOPLE.
Just a month after the picturesque wedding, Testino, who snapped the famed engagement portraits, was at the Museo Del Barrio Gala honoring him and recalled the quiet time – or lack thereof – he spent with the royal couple.
"You know, it's not so much what they say to each other because there is no time," says the fashion photographer, who has shot A-listers like Jennifer Aniston and Madonna. (The Daily also says he will shoot Kate Moss's summer wedding.)
"Everything is compacted into a very short time because we have to produce these pictures. It's more like me screaming and trying to get everything to go."
He adds: "Well, not screaming, but getting in a fluster, I guess you say."
Pressure aside, Testino says the duchess "looked fabulous" – and helped do her own makeup! – and that the couple exuded "sheer happiness."
"They are a young couple in love," he says.
