Get ready, royal fans. Prince Harry is coming back to America.

Harry, 27, who did Apache helicopter training in California and Arizona last year and wowed the Caribbean and Brazil on his first solo overseas tour last month, will be in Washington, D.C, on May 7 to accept the Atlantic Council's 2012 Award for Distinguished Humanitarian Leadership.

The honor recognizes the prince's charitable work, particularly on behalf of military veterans and servicemen and women and their families.

In a statement, Harry office stressed that he is accepting the award on behalf of "his brother the Duke of Cambridge, and their joint work through the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry."

Harry has worked with charities such as Walking with the Wounded and Help for Heroes. During their visit to Los Angeles last July, William and his wife Kate attended an event put on by ServiceNation, a group dedicated to inspiring voluntary citizen service in America.

Before next month's award ceremony, Harry will attend a party at the British ambassador's residence to meet teams of British and American veterans who will have taken part in the Warrior Games in Colorado, which ends on May 5.

William and Kate, meanwhile, will be in England to present prizes at the Badminton Horse Trials on the day of Harry's award.

This weekend, Harry caused a stir at this weekend's London Marathon by telling the BBC that his brother and sister-in-law are planning to run the race next year. But a Clarence House spokesman said Harry's comments "were said in jest."
