Zara Phillips on High Kingdom June 9
Fulfilling a dream – and following her parents' footsteps – Zara Phillips is set to compete in the summer Olympics!
recently won a spot on the 2012 U.K. equestrian team after several stellar performances on her horse, High Kingdom.
High Kingdom is known for his speed, which will come in handy at the 2012 London Games. And Queen Elizabeth II's granddaughter, according to Horse & Hound
editor Lucy Higginson, is "right up there with the best in the world."
"It's awesome to be given this opportunity," Phillips said in a statement.
"I am really excited and can't wait to kick on and get him there." In 2008, she was nominated for the Beijing Games team, but had to drop out
because her horse at the time, Toytown, was injured.
"[High Kingdom is] pretty pony-like, a nippy little jumper and easy to maneuver," says Phillips
. "So hopefully it will suit him well in Greenwich."
Phillips's parents, Princess Anne and Capt. Mark Phillips, also competed for the U.K. equestrian teams at the 1976 Montreal Games and the 1972 Munich Games, respectively.
