"I have to say that I thought Search and Rescue duties over Snowdonia were physically and mentally demanding, but looking after a 3 week-old baby is up there!" William told the crowd at a farming and country show in Wales on Wednesday – at the same time apologizing for the fact that wife Kate and son Georgie couldn't be with him.
The proud father also said his newborn is "pretty loud" but "extremely good looking." Referring to his son as "lovely," William earlier told some people that the family had had a "few sleepless nights," but the "new addition [is] sleeping much better now."
Drawing cheers when he spoke in Welsh, William formally thanked the crowd for its welcome during his and Kate's life more than three years living on Anglesey, an island off northwest Wales, where his RAF stint is soon wrapping up.
"I know that I speak for Catherine when I say that I have never in my life known somewhere as beautiful and as welcoming as Anglesey," he said.
"The views across the Menai Straits are undoubtedly among the most stunning in the British Isles. I know that both of us will miss it terribly when my Search and Rescue tour of duty comes to an end next month and we have to move elsewhere."
He went on to say, "From the bottom of my heart, thank you for making my wife and me so welcome when we arrived here, as you do thousands of visitors each year."
"This island has been our first home together, and it will always be an immensely special place for us both."
As for family dog Lupo, William told some of those greeting him Wednesday: "I should've brought Lupo here this morning, but he'd have just run off and never come back again."
