Prince George is ready to see the world – and for the world to see him!

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge plan to take their son on an official visit to Australia and New Zealand in April, when he will be nearly nine months old.

While it is "anticipated" that George will join his mother and father for what is likely to be more than three weeks away from the U.K., a decision will be made closer to the time, a royal source confirms.

George will have a nanny on board for the trip – Jessie Webb, 71, has been his first nanny and accompanied the young family to the pre-Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday – and not his grandmother Carole Middleton as has been suggested.

The tour would mirror William's early life, as he was nine months old when he accompanied his parents the Prince and Princess of Wales on their official tour of Australia and New Zealand in the spring of 1983.

It will be the first time Kate, 31, has been to either country. William, 31, was last in the two countries shortly before the couple's spectacular wedding in 2011. Then, he was visiting some areas affected by the earthquakes in New Zealand and flood-affected regions of Australia. He also visited the two countries a year earlier.

The couple's office at Kensington Palace said in a statement to PEOPLE: "Their Royal Highnesses have been invited to visit by the New Zealand and Australian governments."

"Further details on the exact dates and itinerary will be issued in due course."

William and Kate are likely to have discussed their impending trip with the New Zealand prime minister John Key during his visit to Queen Elizabeth's Scottish estate Balmoral in late summer. The couple helped entertain Key and his family during their stay.
