Class was in session Friday, when a dressed-down Prince Harry gave a speech in front of 12,000 schoolkids – whose cheers he earned when he confessed to being "incredibly nervous" to stand before them all.

With Harry to lend support: his girlfriend, Cressida Bonas.

For Cressida, in Converse sneakers and black jacket and sitting with family and friends in the vast Wembley Arena, this marked her first appearance at an official event carried out by Harry – a significance not lost on royal observers.

Since he switched to an army desk job, Harry and Cressida have been seen together on more dates around London, including a low-key night (they went out for a burger) and a swanky one (dinner at the restaurant).

Friday's event was the first We Day in the U.K., to support the Free The Children charity, which helps to inspire increased awareness of good citizenship in young people around the world.

In addition to Harry, a key speaker was Malala Yousafzai, who overcame horrific injuries after being shot by the Taliban aboard her schoolbus.

With good humor, Harry told the crowd, "If you were expecting Harry Styles, I apologize. And no, I'm not going to sing."

Speaking for six minutes, Harry, sporting a plaid shirt, praised Free the Children as a "fantastic organization," and said, "Children have the power to affect change.

"Every single one of you here today has some something amazing to be here. I can assure you that collectively your actions can and will and can, and will, shape the course of our future."

Although they arrived separately, Harry and Cressida were reunited in the VIP seats, where she greeted him with a hug and a kiss before they sat side by side.

The event is one of several which plan to bring 180,000 young people together this school year to inspire continued local and global good works.

The London event was part-hosted by Holly Branson, whose brother Sam is married to one of Cressida's half-sisters, Isabella. Holly interviewed her father, Virgin Airlines tycoon Sir Richard, as part of the morning presentation.
