Princess Kate's love of the water runs deep.

The royal mom, whose first official engagement after welcoming daughter Charlotte was in support of youth sailing clubs in Portsmouth last weekend, has earned her advanced diving certification, PEOPLE confirms.

According to The Telegraph, which first reported the news, Princess Kate, 33, has earned her advanced open water diving qualification, allowing her to dive to a depth of 98 ft. The qualification was issued by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI).

Kate follows her husband, Prince William, 33, an avid diver who serves as president of the British Sub-Aqua Club.

Royal officials have confirmed to PEOPLE that the Duchess has passed the PADI qualification and that "it is a sport she very much enjoys alongside the Duke."

According to PADI, the qualification involves two required dives: deep and underwater navigation, along with three other dives of the participant's choosing.

Among the skills acquired: "how to plan dives to deal with the physiological effects and challenges of deeper scuba diving," says the organization, as well as refining "compass navigation skills" and improved navigation "using kick-cycles, visual landmarks and time."

Ever-sporty William and Kate have long enjoyed water- based fun, including holidays on the Caribbean island of Mustique and a pool at their country home, Anmer Hall.

Last year, William told SCUBA magazine that he is eager for Prince George, now 2, to embrace the sport.

"I hope that one day my son, George, will also experience the wonders that snorkeling and scuba diving have to offer," he said.

In July 2014, he joked that George's bathtime routine was trickier than the most expert of dives.

"At the moment bath time is quite painful," he said, "but hopefully donning a snorkel and mask might calm him down!"
