Have scarves eclipsed tiaras as the go-to royal accessory?

If the past few days are any indication, the answer is yes.

During Prince William and Princess Kate's official visit to India and Bhutan, all eyes have been on the royal mom's style. But throughout the visit, what's really captivating our attention is the couple's authentic Indian scarves.

Let's take a look at all the traditional accessories Will and Kate have worn on their tour – and why they're significant.

All right, these aren't technically scarves, but as a traditional neck decoration, they still get a mention. On their first day in India, the two were given floral garland necklaces to welcome them to the country. These multi-colored lei-like necklaces are seen as a sign of respect in India – so it only makes sense that they were given to the royal couple within a few hours of their arrival.

On day two, the real scarves started rolling in. Called "gamucha" scarves, they're woven specifically for dignitaries and other VIP guests. During a visit to Gandhi's house (which has been converted into a museum today), the two were gifted white scarves with teal and orange stripes running down the middle.

Gamucha scarves are typically printed with religious symbols, a local told PEOPLE. You can see evidence of that on the scarf Kate wore during the campfire celebration of Assamese New Year in Guwahati.

On day three, Kate skipped the scarf for another floral garland – this time in deep pink and yellow. She wore a "bindi" on her forehead, a red dot often worn by Hindu women. It's considered to be the point at which creation begins, and can be referred to as the "third eye."

During a visit to the Elephant Family Discovery Centre in Kaziranga National Park, both Will and Kate were given red gamucha scarves with a metallic gold print. The scarves are typically made in the area, and are made "with a lot of love and care," a local told PEOPLE.

The fourth day of their India tour was a big one for Will and Kate upping their scarf collection: They picked up another cream-colored set – with black print for Kate and red stripes for Will – later on in their visit to Kaziranga National Park.

And before they left on a safari, they got another set of scarves to wear for the journey.

And with three days left of their visit, there will be plenty more scarves to come!
