Tim McGraw Picks Up a Gun (and Takes Aim) for Charity

Turns out, Tim McGraw had a specific target in mind.
"I'm going to take out Luke Bryan," the country superstar, and host of the charity Tug McGraw Celebrity Sporting Clay Shootout, said jokingly to PEOPLE Tuesday at the Nashville Gun Club. "He's a Georgia boy, and I'm a Louisiana boy, so I've got an advantage right off."
"But I'm a little rusty, so I'm aiming for Luke's foot," McGraw, slated to hit the road this weekend on his summer tour with Kenny Chesney, continued. "I think if I can take him out, I've got it."
Naturally, no shots were fired at anyone during the event – and good thing, too, because Bryan is expected to present at Wednesday's CMT Music Awards.
The Shootout, meanwhile, was organized by Tim's brother Mark, to benefit the Tug McGraw Foundation, which supports medical care for the country's veterans with traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Other celebrity shooters (many of whom brought their own guns) – among them, Eddie Montgomery and Carrie Underwood's hubby Mike Fisher – took part in the competition, then partook in a barbeque lunch and silent auction back at the clubhouse.
Before the competition, a Beretta rifle was auctioned off, with Fisher in on the bidding war. Ultimately, though, the hockey star was beaten by a $2,600 bid – just $100 more than he wanted to pay.
But perhaps losing out wasn't so terrible, he said, as his wife – a famous vegetarian – doesn't appreciate his interest in hunting.
Quipped Fisher to PEOPLE, "She can't have everything!"
