Lamar Odom has spoken out for the first time as he continues to recover from his near-fatal overdose six months ago.

The former NBA star spoke to Entertainment Tonight at the Staples Center in Los Angeles Wednesday night while attending former Lakers teammate Kobe Bryant's final game.

"I've never been better, especially after tonight," Odom, 36, told ET, praising Bryant's record-breaking game. "He had 60 [points] tonight. He is the world, learned so much from him off the court, on the court, everything kinda translates and life is beautiful."

Odom also addressed rumors he's fallen back into bad habits after he was spotted drinking at a bar with friends on March 26, the day before he celebrated Easter with Khloé Kardashian and her family. (A source told PEOPLE that consuming alcohol is especially dangerous for Odom given the fragile state of his kidneys following his overdose, which occurred at a Nevada brothel on Oct. 13).

"I mean, it gets tough, especially if so much gets speculated," he said. "Only a few people know the truth, and I just keep that close to my heart."

Though he remains legally wed to his ex (Kardashian called off their protracted divorce after his hospitalization), a source told PEOPLE Wednesday the reality star "doesn't agree with some of Lamar's choices in the past few weeks" and plans to pick up their divorce proceedings once again.

Of Kardashian, Odom told ET: "We did talk, you know, everything is [up for] discussion."

"We talk about anything," he said. "We've been through a lot. It won't ever stop."

And that's not all Odom revealed – in fact, the former basketball star told ET his next step is to "get back on the court."

"I still got it," he said.
