In an unusual pairing, the nation's second-in-command will welcome Lady Gaga to the stage at the Academy Awards on Sunday, an adviser to the Vice President tells PEOPLE.
"The VP will be introducing Lady Gaga's performance of her nominated song 'Til It Happens To You' from the documentary The Hunting Ground, about campus sexual assault," the adviser says of Biden, who will attend with his wife, Dr. Jill Biden.
"As a longtime advocate against sexual assault and domestic violence and the author of the Violence Against Women Act, the VP will use the opportunity to call on everyone in the audience and watching at home to visit www.ItsOnUs.org to take the pledge to stand up, speak out and help change the culture around sexual assault," the source continued.
Biden has teamed up with Hollywood in the past to promote It's On Us, and assembled stars like Jon Hamm, Kerry Washington and Olivia Munn to record a White House PSA aimed at fighting sexual assault on college campuses.
Biden previously authored legislation in 1990 that eventually became the Violence Against Women Act.

The trip for Hollywood's biggest night closely follows Biden's brush with movie glamour on Tuesday, when he attended a screening of Tina Fey's new movie Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, the source says.
The invite-only screening for the film, in which Fey stars as an American journalist who moves to Afghanistan, was held at the U.S. Navy memorial.
