VMA Stars: Then & Now

THEN: After "Sleep to Dream" scored the then-19-year-old singer a best new artist win in 1997, Apple delivered a strange, rambling rant, declaring that "This world is bulls–t," prompting host Chris Rock to crack, "Let's hear it for Fiona X!"
NOW: Apple released her fourth studio album, The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do, to critical acclaim in June 2012; while touring to promote the album later that year, she was briefly arrested on drug possession charges in Texas.
