She left the abusive Ike Turner in 1976 with only the shirt on her back, and spent years playing lounge gigs to pay off debts. So, at 45, when Turner triumphed in '85 with record of the year and two other Grammys, it was a comeback of sweet proportions. "I can get emotional when I talk about it," the "What's Love Got to Do With It" singer said in 2005 of her career, before retiring. "It's almost like the war is over. It's all finished. You've arrived. You got there."
