Not long after Sanrio unveiled the first drawings of the bow-clad character on Nov. 1, trendy cat lovers took to her like catnip. Now, on the heels of Hello Kitty's milestone birthday, the company has revealed a shocking secret: "Hello Kitty is not a cat," anthropologist/Hello Kitty scholar Christine R. Yano dished. "She's a cartoon character. She is a little girl. She is a friend. But she is not a cat." Me-wow!
