"I can't believe I've won five awards," she told the intimate crowd, including her mother Janis, father Mitch and older brother Alex. "It's a shame I couldn't be there to accept the awards, but I'm so proud and happy that I had the opportunity to perform for the Grammys in my hometown of London with my family and friends around me. Thank you, thank you, thank you!"

New Music Rivalry: Kanye West and ... Vince Gill?!
Originally posted 02/11/2008 07:45AM
The collective "Oh, snap!" you heard Sunday night at the Grammy Awards was Kanye West getting ribbed by none other than ... country nice guy Vince Gill???
Onstage to accept an award from Beatle Ringo Starr, Gill, who was an album of the year nominee along with West, joked, "I just got an award given to me by a Beatle. Have you had that happen yet, Kanye?"
Gill told reporters backstage that it was all in good fun – and that he doesn't think he's started a new rivalry.
"No, he was laughing," Gill said. "I'm a smartass. You know, I can't help it. He seemed to think that he and Amy [Winehouse] were the only ones worthy of the album of the year tonight. And I was just having some fun. He laughed, so it was all in good spirit."

All Eyes on Kanye West, Amy Winehouse at Grammys
Originally posted 02/10/2008 05:00PM
The Grammy Awards is celebrating its 50th anniversary – and this year's telecast promises plenty of what the Recording Academy offers best: thrilling live performances with an emphasis on unique musical pairings.
Nominee Kanye West was a late, but high profile, addition to the performance slate. The rapper, who leads the pack with eight nominations including album of the year, is expected to deliver a moving tribute to his mother, Donda West, featuring his hits "Stronger" and "Hey Mama," an insider reports. Many industry insiders consider West to be a frontrunner in several categories, including album of the year, for his third album, Graduation.
Also a leading nominee – and not immune to personal struggles herself – Amy Winehouse is tipped by many to be a frontrunner in several of the six categories for which she's nominated (including best new artist and record of the year for her hit "Rehab"). And while the beleaguered Brit scored a visa late Friday afternoon, she won't be making the transatlantic flight; instead, Winehouse will be performing at the ceremony via satellite. "I'm really sorry I can't be there but I appreciate that I'm being given a second chance via satellite," Winehouse said in a statement.

Amy Winehouse Gets U.S. Visa After All!
Originally posted 02/08/2008 05:15PM
The U.S. government has reversed its decision and is saying "yes, yes, yes" to granting Amy Winehouse a visa for Sunday's Grammy Awards.
But because of the tight timing, reps for the nominee say she's going to stick to her plan to perform live via satellite from London.
"Unfortunately, due to the logistics involved and timing complications, Amy will not be coming to the U.S. this weekend to perform at the Grammys in Los Angeles, however she will still be performing via satellite broadcast from London as previously announced this morning," her U.S. rep says in a statement.
