In the
the-a-ter, it's considered bad mojo to wish someone "good luck" – hence the phrase "break a leg." But on the night of the Academy Awards,
Judi Dench will be taking that sentiment just a tad too literally. "I will be having a knee operation during the Oscars," says the Best Actress nominee (for
Notes on a Scandal. "They will actually break my leg and make me taller." Think it'll help her chances? "Being from the theater, I am superstitious," admits Dench, who just a few weeks ago seemed to be itching for a
Dame vs. Dame showdown on the red carpet. Hmm ... As far as good luck charms go, we'll take a rabbit's foot over surgery any day.
