Wanna Get Close to the Oscars? Here's How

Be a Seat Filler
The Kodak employs close to 250 men and woman who stand at the ready to ... sit. When an invited guest needs to stretch their legs, it's the seat filler's job to swoop in and maintain the seamless sea of smiling faces. Most award shows use the aptly named Seatfiller.com to fill those chairs, but the Academy generally reserves these plum roles for their own staff and families.
Work As an Usher
The Kodak Theatre will have 40 ushers working the Oscars. Here again, landing the gig is a long shot, as this is the Super Bowl of ushering. Only the crème de la crème of the Kodak's existing staff is chosen.
Be a Bleacher Creature
Try for one of the 600 or so bleacher seats that line the red carpet. The Academy randomly selects this lucky bunch from a lottery on its Web site that lasts for only seven days in September. Winners are notified in October, then asked to fill out an application and pass a rigorous screening process before they are accepted in December.
Bid on Charity Tickets
Stars from Ellen DeGeneres to Jennifer Love Hewitt are auctioning off tickets to next year's Oscars to benefit their favorite charities. You can ogle Mark Wahlberg and feel all warm 'n' fuzzy inside! Click here for a full list of tickets and other prizes you can bid on.
Cluster on the Street
You won't see any stars, but you might hear the fans in the bleachers scream, if you stand in the street outside the red carpet. You'll also be on the other side of the chain-link fence wrapped in dense green mesh. At that point, we think the best view of the show is from your couch.
