Swag Mountain Reaches Its $24,250 Peak

Behold! Swag Mountain Reaches Its $24,250 Peak Photo by: Frank Swertlow
As we finish our experiment in collecting all the free stuff we could from Oscar luxury suites in five days, it's confession time. We thought we could stop. We really did. Oh, $150 worth of chocolate here, $300 in cosmetics there, maybe some healthy dog food for the pooch we don't have, but we could always return to PEOPLE.com's offices with our dignity intact, build our little Swag Mountain and call it an awards week.

Then those most unlikely sirens of swag, the Independent Spirit Awards, lured us into their den of freebies, and it was all over: $20,000 in electronics, hotel stays and yearlong movie passes.

So how do we look at ourselves in the morning? Through a brand new pair of Solstice sunglasses, thank you very much! That's right, after five days of suite hopping, we're feeling swagadelic! (At least until we return the items to the suites or donate it to charity.) To recap our final day:

• Who would have imagined that the edgy, low-budget bunch over at the Independent Spirit Awards in Santa Monica had THE suite of the week, handing out to Saturday's presenters, attendeees and other big stars a Palm Treo smartphone, Solstice's high-end shades, an Invicta Swiss watch, two nights at Napa's Gaige House and a whole year's worth of AMC Theater gift passes?

• Earlier, to keep us feeling centered, relaxed and, dare we say, sexy, we stopped by the Liberace Oscar Suite on Beverly Boulevard and loaded up on $800 worth of body-pampering potions that sound good enough to eat, including Elizabeth Grant caviar rejuvenating ampoules for the skin and Kama Sutra's edible honey dust body powder and souffle body cream. And to set the mood: Dirt organic soy candles.

To which we say thanks. It'll be a fitting way to end a grueling week of audacious consumption: We can lie in the aromatic tub, spark a soy candle, turn on the TV and purr, "Ahh, Oscar."

Day 4's haul: Chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate!
Day 3's haul: Spa treatments to rub it all away
Day 2's haul: Barbie scales Swag Mountain
Day 1's haul: The $20 bottle of water
