Inside the Vanity Fair bash at Mortons in West Hollywood:

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, sharing hugs and kisses with Elton John and husband David Furnish, as both duos arrived.

Beyoncé Knowles, who made another wardrobe change into an ice-blue Elie Saab Couture gown, admitting she wasn't about to starve herself before the Oscars: "I had an In-N-Out Burger before the show. It was so good," she told us.

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, beaming at each other as the Oscar host's mom snapped photos of them.

Dixie Chicks singer Natalie Maines and Sheryl Crow, sharing a banquette as Maines's husband, Heroes actor Adrian Pasdar, chatted with music producer Rick Rubin.

Gwen Stefani and Liv Tyler, cooing over pictures of Tyler's 2-year-old son Milo on the actress's BlackBerry, prompting Stefani to turn to husband Gavin Rossdale and squeal, "Show them our baby!"

• The Oscar queen herself, Helen Mirren, holding court as well-wishers including Jamie Foxx approached her table. Meanwhile the man of the hour, Al Gore, whose global-warming film An Inconvenient Truth scored the Best Documentary Academy Award, gave Kirsten Dunst and nominee Kate Winslet each a kiss on the cheek.

At the PEOPLE Oscar After Midnight party, cohosted with film producer Phil Maloof at his Beverly Hills home:

Lindsay Lohan and mom Dina, making the rounds as guests enjoyed massages and comfort food (braised short ribs, macaroni and cheese) prepared by celebrity chef Kerry Simon.

Grey's Anatomy star Isaiah Washington, going head-to-head with ER star Mekhi Phifer in a celebrity blackjack tournament, whose $50,000 proceeds benefited the nonprofit YouthAIDS (Phifer won; Washington came in second).

At the night's other afterparties:

Natalie Portman and Gael Garcia Bernal, getting cozy at a bash hosted by agent Patrick Whitesell, party producer Brent Bolthouse and others at a private home in the Hollywood Hills. Nicole Richie, Joel Madden and Mischa Barton hung out in a cluster, while Richie's ex DJ AM spun tunes. Also there: Cameron Diaz, who had a girls' night out with pals, a jovial Vince Vaughn, and Ryan Phillippe, who chatted up Alpha Dog star Emile Hirsch.

Leonardo DiCaprio, searching for mom Irmelin at the A-list Governors Ball at the Hollywood & Highland complex's Grand Ballroom, which looked like a scene out of A Midsummer's Night Dream with floral trellises of lilac and ivy and a faux evening sky. "I just lost her!" he told us. Ten minutes later, after loading up on a plate of Wolfgang Puck's organic delights (the menu included smoked salmon and caviar, lobster tempura and risotto with black truffles), he held Mom's hand as they went back to their table.

Best Actor winner Forest Whitaker, also at the Governors Ball, excitedly waving to wife Keisha so that she could meet fellow winner Jennifer Hudson, whom he praised for her "moving performance." Hudson told us that her favorite Oscar look was her final dress of the evening – a beaded champagne-colored Roberto Cavalli gown. "It's just so glamorous, don't you think? It's amazing."

Jennifer Love Hewitt, telling us she was rooting for Best Supporting Actress nominee Abigail Breslin to win at the Envelope Please Oscar-viewing party Hewitt hosted to benefit the AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA) at The Abbey bar in West Hollywood. "She's so sweet and lovely and I hope she really just takes tonight in and enjoys it," said Hewitt, who snuggled with actor boyfriend Ross McCall. Also there: new couple Haylie Duff and A.J. DiScala and Lance Bass.

Madonna and Guy Ritchie, staring into each other's eyes at Prince's bash at Teddy's in the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. There, nominee Ryan Gosling, who took drags from a clove cigarette, spun a female friend on the dance floor, Penélope Cruz playfully slapped Sean "Diddy" Combs on the chest, and the duo danced with Black Eyed Peas rapper Will.i.Am to Usher's "Yeah" before Cruz's constant companion of late, Orlando Bloom, showed up.

Victoria Beckham, making a special order for her dinner at the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party, sponsored by Audi, Chopard and VH1, in West Hollywood. On her menu: fish without olive oil, salad without dressing and tropical fruit with balsamic vinegar on the side for dessert. James Blunt (who was involved in a car accident at a pre-Oscar party) performed a six-song set at the bash – with girlfriend Petra Nemcova snapping photo after photo of him. And after doing a duet of "Tiny Dancer" with Elton John, he gushed, "That'll do for me. I would like to announce my retirement." The evening, which included a charity auction, raised $4.2 million for John's foundation.
