Kate Middleton was the epitome of a modern princess bride, but it was the young woman carrying her train – kid sister Pippa Middleton – who captivated the public's imagination at the royal wedding.

The middle child of self-made millionaires Michael and Carole Middleton, Pippa followed Kate's footsteps to Scotland, where she attended college and took part in her older sister's royally connected social circle. But the young PR executive eventually struck out on her own, making a splash on the London social scene and, in 2008, earning the title of "Number 1 Society Singleton" from British society magazine Tatler.

Three years later, her figure-flattering Alexander McQueen maid of honor dress made her an international figure in every sense of the word, elevating the British party planner's status as a society figure and burgeoning style-setter.

A single and ambitious Pippa strikes out on her own in London, first working as a publicist and later landing a job at event planning company Table Talk. Though the press hounds Kate, UK high society magazine Tatler takes notice of the younger Middleton, naming her "Top Society Singleton" of 2008. "Pippa has a reputation as being the really fun one, slightly louder and more outgoing than Kate," says former Tatler editor Catherine Ostler. "Possibly slightly naughtier."
