Freight Train to Success
Pattinson plays a sensitive veterinarian who falls for a married circus performer (played by Reese Witherspoon) in the film adaptation of Sara Gruen's best-selling novel Water for Elephants. The film, which debuts at No. 3 and pulls in $17.5 million, reunites the actor with his Vanity Fair costar. "There's something about her," he gushes to EW about Witherspoon. "All the kids and the animals were just drawn to her."
'Breaking' the Bank
Breaking Dawn – Part 1 rakes in more than $139 million during its first week at the box office before going on to best the competition in its second week. "I kind of worked out to bulk up a little for those scenes with my shirt off," Pattinson says of shooting the racy post-wedding sex scene. "I stopped literally the day afterwards. I find it very boring to work out."
Total Eclipse of the Heart
After news breaks of girlfriend Kristen Stewart's infidelity with her married Snow White and the Huntsman director, Rupert Sanders, the actress issues a public apology for hurting her boyfriend of three years. "I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected," she says in a statement. "This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry."
Back in the Spotlight
After laying low in the aftermath of his breakup, Pattinson makes his first public appearance at the world premiere of his latest drama, Cosmopolis, in New York City. The actor also stops by The Daily Show, bonding with host Jon Stewart over ice cream. "My biggest problem is that I don't have a publicist," he says of fielding relationship questions. "I'm going to have to hire a publicist."
Following a brief split, Pattinson reconciles with Stewart two months after her cheating scandal. The reunion comes hot on the heels of the announcement that the pair, who play husband and wife in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, will publicly promote their film together. On November 16, the final Twilight film hits theaters and grosses $140 million during opening weekend, eventually becoming the franchise's most successful installment.
Seven months after reconciling, Pattinson and Stewart once again go their separate ways, with the Twilight star failing to attend a birthday celebration thrown by the actress. "He had friends over at his house, but Kristen was not part of the celebration," a source tells PEOPLE, adding that it wouldn't be surprising if the pair got back together.
