Reynolds stars as Sandra Bullock's assistant and faux fiancé in the rom-com The Proposal, where both strip down for a much-hyped nude scene. "You're doing it for so long that you dispense with the awkwardness pretty quickly and start to have mundane, normal conversations," Reynolds tells PEOPLE, "the difference being you're not wearing pants."
Sexy and self-deprecating, the Green Lantern star is named PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive. "The most difficult part is going to be organically working this title into a conversation with random strangers," Reynolds jokes, adding, "This gives my family entre into teasing me for the rest of my life."
After two years of marriage, Reynolds and Scarlet Johansson call it quits. "After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we've decided to end our marriage," the couple says in a joint statement. "We entered our relationship with love and it's with love and kindness we leave it."
Reynolds stars in Green Lantern, the film adaptation of the beloved DC Comics franchise, which debuts at the top of the weekend box office with $52.6 million. The actor plays Hal Jordan (opposite Blake Lively), a test pilot who receives a magic ring and turns into a crime-fighting superhero. "I'm just glad they didn't ask me to play Wonder Woman," Reynolds joked of his superhero role. "On the other hand, that could be fun. The short shorts. The tall boots. What do you think?"
Reynolds ties the knot with girlfriend Lively, 25, in a secret ceremony at Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. The newlyweds celebrate their nuptials with friends and family during a white-tent reception, featuring a performance by Lively's good friend, Florence Welch (of Florence and the Machine).
Over three months after his hush-hush nuptials, Reynolds offers fans a small peek from his big day in Martha Stewart Weddings. An elegant shot of the newlyweds holding hands is released among pictures of pastries and wedding décor, which Stewart herself helped coordinate. "While they remain protective of images of them on their most heartfelt occasion, they graciously let us share pictures of the elements we created together," says the magazine staff.
