Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola spent over a decade in the loving company of a "sister" – one with four legs.
Abby, a cockapoo, was like a sibling to the Jersey Shore star, but last year, doctors discovered a tumor in her stomach, and the 11-year-old pup died soon afterward.
"It was a very devastating and traumatizing experience," Giancola tells PEOPLE. "Abby was a part of my family, and it was a huge deal to say goodbye to her."

Home is where the heart is. But for the Jersey Shore crew, it's also the where the fighting, drunkenness and general mayhem are.
Arriving in New Jersey after a season in Italy, the cast of the MTV show spare little time getting back to their wild and crazy roots, judging by the just-released trailer for season 5, premiering Jan. 5.
Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino and Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi get into a major fight. Vinny Guadagnino announces he's leaving the shore house. And a huge bar brawl erupts in Seaside Heights that leaves Sorrentino bleeding.

Jersey Shore's Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino is no longer just a reality TV regular.
The buff star has landed his first actual acting role, playing famous hip-hop star Angel Adonis, who is the lead judge on a TV talent show in the Yobi.Tv Web series, New Stage.
"We're gonna do a spoof on judge TV talent," the newly anointed thespian, 29, explains in the show's teaser. "I'll be like that Simon Cow – I don't even know his name." (We do – it's Simon Cowell).

In the most unfair fight since a big drunk dude socked Snooki back in Seaside Heights, Mike "The Situation" Sorentino squared off against Ronnie on Thursday night's episode of Jersey Shore, landing him in an Italian hospital.
But it wasn't his roommate who did the damage.

So when the reality star popped by PEOPLE to discuss the fourth season of Jersey Shore – the GTL gang goes to Italy – we challenged her to a fill-in-the blank quiz about all things Snooki.
The pint-size star surprised us: Turns out, she loves alien movies, doesn't mind being called an Oompa Loompa and thinks that 30-year-olds classify as cougars.

Jersey Shore is back!
You've seen the trailer for season 4 of MTV's hit reality show, which premieres Thursday (10 p.m. ET), and Ronnie, The Situation, Pauly D, Vinny, Deena, Sammi, JWoww and a slimmed-down Snooki are bringing their brand of fun and drama – expect fights, romance and even a car crash! – to Italy.

Italy may never be the same.
During Monday night's broadcast of Teen Wolf, MTV aired the trailer for season 4 of Jersey Shore, which premieres Aug. 4 (10 p.m. ET).
From the looks of it, Snooki, The Situation, Pauly D, Vinny, Deena, Sammi, JWoww and Ronnie are in for the most dramatic season yet, as the roommates do what they do best: go clubbing, hook up and fight.
"I'm going back to the Motherland," The Situation declares.

How do you say "brace yourself" in Italian?
Jersey Shore's season 4 premiere is less than a month away – and now PEOPLE.com has your first look at an official cast photo, and it appears they're not holding anything back.
In the shot, the cast gets all glammed-up for a late-night run through the streets of Florence, Italy, where they filmed the show starting in May. (It must have been a short stay, though. They were already back in Seaside Heights, N.J., by the end of June and hard at work at season 5.) The season begins Aug. 4 on MTV (10 p.m. ET).

Has Snooki been putting a little more stress on the "G" in her GTL routine?
Now back from Italy, where the "gym, tan, laundry" gang was filming season four, Jersey Shore star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, 23, seems to be gearing up for season five by working out.
The pint-sized reality star was spotted heading to the gym Monday with cast mates Jenni "JWoww" Farley and Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola, who will all be heading to the Seaside Heights, N.J., house Sunday to begin filming the next season.

The kings and queens of fist pumping aren't going anywhere yet.
Amid rumors that MTV is planning on replacing the cast of Jersey Shore with a newer, cheaper cast, one of the founding fathers of the "Gym. Tan. Laundry" clan isn't worried.
"I think we're irreplaceable," Paul "DJ Pauly D" DelVecchio told PEOPLE Friday in Las Vegas. "I don't think they could replace us. They'd just be people trying to be like us, anyway."
