Smith reunites with Pursuit of Happyness director Gabriele Muccino for Seven Pounds, a drama about one man's quest to change the lives of seven strangers. The film, costarring Rosario Dawson, opens with $14.8 million and raises Smith's yearly haul to $271.8 million. As a result, the Quigley Poll names him the Top Moneymaking Star of 2008.
With the spotlight intently focused on their marriage, Jada debunks rampant rumors of a possible split. "Every year, one celebrity couple is under the microscope," she tells French magazine Gala. "This year, unluckily, it's us…Will and I know the truth. We're waiting peacefully for the storm to blow over."
Nearly 15 years after Men in Black dominated the box office, Smith returns to his extra-terrestrial crime-fighting roots in Men in Black 3, the third installment of the blockbuster franchise, which also stars Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin.
Seven years after The Pursuit of Happyness, Smith again stars opposite real-life son Jaden in the sci-fi drama After Earth. "It may seem like we have pushed our kids into the business, but that is absolutely insane," the actor tells New York magazine, while Jaden characterizes his relationship with his dad as "normal." But despite the pair's combined efforts, the film, which cost $135 million to produce, earns only $60 million domestically.
